Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots
Listen, I know my reviews have been consisting of Metal Gear lately but fuck you I’m a fan so you can kiss my grits. Love you all really.
Metal Gear 4 is an awesome game, plain and simple. People may think “hold on Metal Gear4 is pretty much Peace Walker” WRONG! Yes the layout is similar but the game-play differs on so many levels and it works so much better with MGS4 that comparing the two is blasphemy in my eyes, so piss off with that patter.
Again, you play as Solid Snake the hero from the previous instalments except poor Snake is getting on a bit because, let’s face it he looks like Hugh Heffner’s left nut but the look suits you Snake. Snake is looking for Liquid Ocelot who has been planning an insurrection and once again Snake has to stick his nose in but that’s why we love him. Otacon joins snake on his travels providing him with help through the codec and other means.
The game-play is over the shoulder third person which didn’t bother me in this game as much as it did in peace walker because it suits the environment in MGS4. The layout is back to the trust formula I personally know and love which makes it so much easier to navigate instead of fart arseing around trying to find your damn weapon. A new addition to MGS4 is Octo Camo which, if you are lying flat or pressed up against a wall, it will mimic the texture of object you are leaning on, much like an octopus does. This feature really helps when you don’t want to be caught scratching your arse and smoking a cigarette. The CQC is back with some nice changes, for instance you can hold some one up and pat them down for items and then squeeze their nuts to put them down, it’s all in good fun!
Raiden makes a return but he isn’t the pissy arse faggot that he was in MGS2 in fact he is rather awesome when it comes to how much a gay he was but yeah nice to see he’s moved on from long blonde hair and Vo5 hair products.
Metal Gear 4 is a must play for any fan of the serious because, in my opinion, it is the best entry in the entire serious and that is hard for me to say because number MGS2 and MGS3 were so brilliant.
By the way, the final battle between Snake and Liquid is one of the best climax to a video game I have ever seen. There are some twist and surprises for anyone who pays attention to the storyline of the games because I was shocked at how all games connect perfectly.
Review: 5/5. Metal Gear 4: Guns of the Patriots is one of the best games ever to grace the video game world. Brilliant graphics. Intriguing game-play that will keep you hooked and a great send off for the series.
