Dead Island

I reviewed this a while back but it seems WordPress seemed to edit it to its liking so I guess I’ll have to do it again. *Angry face*

Sounds awesome.

A first person melee based zombie game you say? What can possibly go wrong?! Well let’s find out shall we?

Stuck in development hell for 6-7 years Dead Island looked very promising and for the most part it was because, let’s face it, cracking a Zombie over the head with a baseball bat and witnessing all the goo splash into your face is Awesome, if it’s done right. Developed by Techland, Dead Island is pretty awesome when you first play it and with the promise of four player co-op it seemed like Dead Island was going to be a smash.

You get the choice of who you want to crack some skulls with and each character has certain strengths and weaknesses which is pretty redundant for the most part because all the characters can swing a baseball bat with enough force that the Zombies are going to know that they are going to have to fight for their dinner.

Well someone is a tad peckish.

As I said Dead Island is good for the most part but the bugs in the game really deter away from the game-play. There is nothing quite like the visual of seeing a Zombie being stuck face down and arse up in a deck chair. The bugs are very troublesome and take so much away from the game that it is infuriating. The game is quite repetitive also and the quests your are given, well some of them, are stupid at best and down right horrendous at worst. There was one point where I was given a quest to go out and face untold Zombies just to get a little girls teddy bear back, I was like “fuck no I’m armed with a chair leg and you want me to go out there and get your teddy”? “Fuck you”! True story.

You can modify weapons but you have to get blueprints to do so, for instance, you can pick up a blueprint which allows you to electrify a machete, seems decent enough but you won’t find yourself doing so because you have already got untold weapons that do more damage.

MACHETE! Electric machete, actually.

Dead Island is good but the glitches and bugs overwhelm the game to a point you will just get annoyed.

Review: 2.5/5: Silly bugs repetitive game-play and stupid quests really shit over this game which is sad because it had such promise.
